- bacitracin methylene disalicylate — 150 mg.
Excipients: calcium carbonate, maize starch.
Pharmacological Properties
ATCvet classification code QJ01 — antibacterial veterinary medicinal products for systemic use. QJ01XX10 — Bacitracin.
Bacitracin methylene disalicylate is a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic. It exerts a bactericidal effect against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp.). It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by suppressing the regeneration of phospholipid receptors involved in peptidoglycan synthesis.
When ingested with feed, bacitracin methylene disalicylate suppresses the growth of pathogenic microflora in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, digestive and metabolic processes in the animal are activated. Bacitracin methylene disalicylate is virtually not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; therefore, it does not accumulate in organs and tissues, regardless of the duration of administration and the doses applied.
It is excreted from the animal body via faeces.
Indications
Treatment of pigeons with clostridiosis caused by microorganisms (Clostridia spp.) susceptible to bacitracin methylene disalicylate.
Dosage and Administration
Orally, mixed with complete feed at a dose of 0,33–0,66 g of the product per 1 kg of feed, corresponding to 50–100 mg of bacitracin methylene disalicylate per 1 kg of feed, daily for 7 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to bacitracin methylene disalicylate.
