ZINOL 1% (granulated powder for oral use)
Ingredients: NOSIHEPTIDE
Application: Orally
Type of formulation: Antibiotic

Description

Granulated powder from greyish white to brown in colour.

Composition

1 g of the product contains active substance:
- nosiheptide – 10 mg.
Excipient: calcium carbonate.

Pharmacological properties

ATCvet code: QA07A – intestinal antiinfectives (antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products used in intestinal infections.

The active substance of the product is nosiheptide – an antibiotic of the polypeptide group, produced by the bacteria Streptomyces actuosus.

It has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive microorganisms: Clostridium perfringens, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., as well as on some gram-negative microorganisms: Pasteurella multocida, Neisseria catarrhalis.

The mechanism of action of the antibiotic is based on the disruption of bacterial protein synthesis at the level of the 50S ribosomal subunit; it binds tightly to the complex of 23S rRNA with ribosomal protein L11. Nosiheptide is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, therefore it acts exclusively on the intestinal microflora.

It inhibits the development of microorganisms that produce ammonia, thereby helping to reduce the ammonia level in the gastrointestinal tract. Bacterial resistance to the active substance develops slowly. No resistance has been detected in Clostridium perfringens. Microorganisms do not exhibit cross-resistance with other antibacterial medicinal products.

A high concentration of nosiheptide is created in the gastrointestinal tract, which contributes to a prolonged antibacterial effect. Nosiheptide is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, does not accumulate in organs and tissues, and is excreted from the body unchanged with faeces.

Indications

Treatment of ornamental birds (pigeons) suffering from necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens sensitive to Nosiheptide.

Dosage and administration

- pigeons – 0,20–0,25 g of the product per 1 kg of feed (corresponding to 2,0–2,5 mg of Nosiheptide per 1 kg of feed) for 5–7 days. Medicated feed should be the only feed offered during the entire treatment period.

If necessary, the course of treatment may be repeated.
