EFECTVET™ ULTRA for cats (spot-on solution)

Oily liquid ranging from yellowish to reddish-brown in colour with a characteristic odour of its components.

1 ml of the product contains the active substance:

- fenthion – 30,0 mg

Excipients: 1,2-propylene glycol, fragrance, glycerol, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol.

ATCvet QP53A, ectoparasiticides for topical use with insecticides (QP53AF07 – fenthion).

Fenthion is an insecticide belonging to the group of organothiophosphate compounds. Its mechanism of action involves blocking the enzyme acetylcholinesterase at the synapses of the parasite's central nervous system, leading to its death. Fenthion penetrates poorly through the blood–brain barrier of warm-blooded animals; however, when applied externally, it is absorbed through the skin and enters the bloodstream. Blood-sucking parasites are killed when fenthion enters their bodies via the blood of the treated animal.

For the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Siphonaptera) in cats caused by: Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea), Ctenocephalides canis (dog flea), Pulex irritans (human flea).

Before use, cut off the tip of the pipette with scissors.

The veterinary medicinal product is applied topically to the skin at the nape of the neck (between the shoulder blades) and along the spine at the following dose: 1 pipette of 1,0 ml of the product for cats weighing more than 2 kg and aged one year or older.

A single treatment protects animals against ectoparasite infestation for 3–6 weeks. Repeat treatments should be carried out every 3–4 weeks.

Hypersensitivity to fenthion.

Do not use in kittens under one year of age and weighing less than 2 kg.

Do not use in animals simultaneously or within several days before or after treatment with or exposure to cholinesterase-inhibiting products, such as carbamates, levamisole, morantel, or pyrantel.

Fenthion must not be used in animals suffering from diarrhoea, chronic constipation, colic, convulsions, respiratory disorders, or renal and/or cardiac disorders.

Do not use in debilitated, diseased, or emaciated animals.

Do not use in pregnant animals or in females during lactation.

Use only upon prescription by a veterinary surgeon.

In sensitive animals following treatment, or in animals that have licked the product immediately after application, signs of nervous disorders may occur (excessive salivation, vomiting, restlessness, bloating, generalised tremors, mydriasis, respiratory disturbances, ataxia). These signs resolve within a few minutes without additional treatment. In the event of allergic complications (skin rash, pruritus, and oedema), desensitising therapy is recommended.

Antidote: atropine sulphate.

In cases of extensive skin lesions, topical treatment with fenthion may result in excessive dermal absorption with the development of parasympathomimetic symptoms.

Depolarising muscle relaxants must not be administered within 10 days following the administration of organophosphorus compounds, as they potentiate adverse effects.

Fenthion must not be used concomitantly with neuroleptic medicinal products.

Observe the basic hygiene and safety rules applicable when working with veterinary medicinal products.

Treatment of animals should be carried out in the open air, using rubber gloves.

The product must be applied to areas inaccessible for licking; do not allow the product to be licked off by other animals.

Do not smoke, drink, or eat whilst handling the product.

After working with the product, wash hands with warm water and soap; wash and dry gloves. If the product accidentally comes into contact with skin or mucous membranes, wash off immediately with running water.

Avoid contact of the product with the animal's eyes. Do not apply the product to damaged skin or wounds.

After treatment, animals must not be stroked and must not be allowed near children until the coat is completely dry. Treated animals must also not sleep with their owners, particularly with children.

Care items and areas frequented by animals (bedding, mats, furniture) should be cleaned and treated regularly with appropriate insecticides.

Polymeric dropper ampoules or pipette vials of 1,0 ml. Secondary packaging: cardboard box.

Store in a dry, dark place, out of reach of children, at a temperature between 5 °C and 25 °C.
