Application: Orally
Type of formulation: Antibiotic

DESCRIPTION

A powder ranging from white to light brown in color, with the smell of its constituent components.

COMPOSITION

Each gram of the product contains the active ingredient:

- Colistin sulfate – 5,000,000 IU.

Excipients: citric acid, sorbitol.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

ATC vet classification code QA07 – Antimicrobial veterinary drugs used in intestinal infections. QA07AA10 – Colistin.

Colistin is an antibiotic of the polymyxin group, synthesized by the aerobic spore-forming bacterium Bacillus polymyxa. It exerts a bactericidal effect on Gram-negative bacteria (such as Salmonella spp., non-invasive E. coli, Pseudomonas spp.), by binding to the phospholipids of the cytoplasmic membrane, increasing its permeability to both intracellular and extracellular components, which leads to the disruption of the cell barriers and bacterial cell lysis.

After oral administration, colistin is minimally absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract of calves, and its concentration in the blood serum of these animals is not detectable. In chickens, colistin can be detected in small amounts in the blood serum 6 hours after being administered with drinking water. However, high and constant concentrations of colistin are always present in various sections of the gastrointestinal tract.

Colistin is excreted from the body of animals in feces.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

For the treatment of calves (up to 3 months old), pigs, and poultry (broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, geese, ducks) suffering from colibacillosis and other gastrointestinal diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to colistin.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Calves up to 3 months: Administer with drinking water or milk – 1.0 g of the product per 100 kg of body weight (50,000 IU of colistin sulfate per 1 kg body weight) per day (in two doses) for 3-5 days.

Pigs: 1.0 g of the product per 100 kg of body weight (50,000 IU of colistin sulfate per 1 kg body weight) per day (in two doses) or 200 g of the product per 1000 L of drinking water (1,000,000 IU of colistin sulfate per 1 L of water) daily for 3-5 days.

Poultry (broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, geese, ducks): 1.0-2.0 g of the product per 100 kg of body weight (50,000-100,000 IU of colistin sulfate per 1 kg body weight of the bird), or 100-200 g of the product per 1000 L of drinking water (500,000-1,000,000 IU of colistin sulfate per 1 L of water) daily for 3-5 days.

To prepare the solution, pour the required amount of drinking water (preferably warm) into a clean small container, and add the powder in small portions, stirring continuously until completely dissolved. The resulting concentrate (0.10-0.20 kg of the product per 10 L of water) should be immediately added to the required amount of drinking water, in accordance with the daily water consumption rate for the respective age categories of animals and poultry. Prepare fresh solution daily.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to colistin.

Not to be used in horses.

Not to be used in combination with ampicillin, cephalosporins, and aminoglycosides.

Not to be used when resistant strains of pathogens are identified.

Not to be used in animals with severe liver and kidney dysfunction.

Not to be used in ruminants with functionally developed fore-stomachs.

Not to be used for prophylaxis.

CAUTIONS

Side effects:

No side effects are observed when used at recommended doses. In rare cases, allergic reactions (skin rashes, itching, swelling) and digestive disturbances (anorexia, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea) may occur. If these symptoms appear, stop using the product and provide desensitizing therapy to the animal.

Special precautions:

When using this product, it is necessary to follow general and local guidelines for the use of antimicrobial agents. Colistin is used in human medicine for the treatment of infections caused by multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Therefore, its use should only be based on susceptibility testing results. Non-compliance with the instructions may lead to the development of bacterial resistance, reducing the effectiveness of colistin and other antimicrobial drugs due to cross-resistance.

Use during pregnancy, lactation, and egg-laying:

The product is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation due to possible neurotoxic effects. Its use is only allowed when the therapeutic benefit outweighs the potential negative effects. There is no data on the embryotoxic, teratogenic, or mutagenic effects of colistin.

Interactions with other drugs:

Absorption of colistin may be reduced due to the high levels of Ca2+, Fe3+, Mg2+, and unsaturated fatty acids in animal feed. It is recommended to maintain a 1-2 hour interval between the use of other drugs containing polyvalent cations. The product should not be mixed with other medicinal products.

Withdrawal period (carnitine):

Animals and poultry may be slaughtered for meat 3 days after the last application of the product. Eggs may be used without restrictions. Meat obtained before the specified period should be either discarded or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the veterinarian’s recommendation.
