ANTI-INTIMACY (oral solution)
Ingredients: Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA)
Application: Orally
Type of formulation: hormonal

Description

An oily solution ranging from yellowish to yellow in colour, with a characteristic odour of the ingredients; slight sediment may be present.

Composition

1 ml of the product contains the active substance:
- medroxyprogesterone acetate — 20 mg.
Excipients: benzyl alcohol, flavouring, cottonseed oil.

Pharmacological properties

ATCvet QG, veterinary medicinal products affecting the genitourinary system and sex hormones (QG03A hormonal contraceptives for systemic use).

The active substance of the product is medroxyprogesterone acetate, a synthetic progestin, an analogue of progestins produced by the corpus luteum. Its action consists in transforming proliferative endometrium into secretory endometrium, promotes myometrial hypertrophy, and inhibiting uterine contractions. Depending on the dose, it suppresses the secretion of pituitary gonadotropins and has an anti-insulin effect.

In animals, medroxyprogesterone acetate has a pronounced adrenocortical effect and suppresses the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol.
Medroxyprogesterone has an anti-estrogenic effect and reduces plasma testosterone levels in males.

Indications

The product is administered orally to female and male dogs.
For female dogs, it is used to delay and interrupt estrus; for male dogs, to reduce sexual activity and correct undesirable behavior (urine marking, intraspecies aggression, increased excitability).
The product also prevents signs of pseudopregnancy and lactation.

Dosage

Administer orally, forcibly onto the root of the tongue or with a small amount of food 1–2 hours before the animal's main feeding. Shake the vial with the solution thoroughly before use.

Female dogs:
- for estrus prevention — 0,25 ml (7 drops from the dropper bottle) of the product per 10 kg of body weight once daily 7–15 days before the onset of estrus; after discontinuation, estrus occurs within several days; the product must not be used continuously for longer than 32 days;
- for estrus interruption — 0,25 ml (7 drops from the dropper bottle) of the product per 10 kg of body weight once daily during the first 3 days, and then 1/2 of the previous dose per 10 kg of body weight once daily for 7 days until signs of estrus cease, no later than the third day after the onset of estrus. After discontinuation, estrus usually begins after 4–9 months. It is not recommended to use the product more often than 2 courses per year.

Male dogs:
- when signs of sexual arousal appear, for calming and correction of undesirable behavior (urine marking, intraspecies aggression, increased excitability) — 1 ml or 30 drops from the dropper bottle of the product per 10 kg of body weight per day for 8 days, and then 0,5 ml or 15 drops from the dropper bottle of the product per 10 kg of body weight per day for 8 days.

Contraindications

The product must not be used in animals during pregnancy and lactation or in cases of pseudopregnancy and lactation.
The product must not be used in diseases of the genitourinary and endocrine systems, in animals with disturbances of the normal estrous cycle, mammary gland tumours, or in sexually immature animals (before the first estrus).
The product must not be used if more than 2 days have passed since the onset of estrus.

Precautions

With long-term use, changes in the estrous cycle, enlargement of the mammary glands, excessive appetite, and increased body weight are possible.
Use the product under the supervision of a veterinarian, especially in Greyhounds and other sighthound breeds.
