PREGNERON-VS® (suspension for injection)

A liquid ranging from colourless to yellow.

1 ml of the product contains the active substance:

- medroxyprogesterone acetate - 25 mg

Excipients: benzyl alcohol, cottonseed oil.

ATCvet QG03A, hormonal contraceptives for systemic use.

The active substance of the product is medroxyprogesterone acetate — a synthetic progestin, an analogue of progestins produced by the corpus luteum. Its action consists in the transformation of proliferative endometrium into secretory endometrium, enhancement of myometrial hypertrophy, and inhibition of uterine contractions. Depending on the dose, it suppresses the secretion of pituitary gonadotrophins and exerts an anti-insulin effect. In animals, medroxyprogesterone acetate demonstrates a pronounced adrenocortical effect and may suppress the release of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol. Medroxyprogesterone also has an anti-oestrogenic effect and may reduce plasma testosterone levels in males.

For long-term prevention or interruption of oestrus in female cats and female dogs, and prevention of unwanted pregnancy; treatment of false pregnancy and pseudolactation in female dogs; treatment of nymphomania in female cats.

The product is administered as a single injection, subcutaneously in the interscapular (dorsal neck) region or intramuscularly in the thigh area, at the following doses:

- Female dogs with body weight up to:

10 kg – 1,0 ml; 

10 to 20 kg – 2,0 ml; 

over 40 kg – 6,0 ml.

For prevention of oestrus - 5–10 days before its expected onset, for interruption of oestrus -  within 1–2 days after the appearance of the first signs (behavioural changes, onset of mucous discharge with blood admixture, attractiveness to members of the opposite sex):

- Female dogs with body weight:

2–5 kg – 2,0–3,0 ml; 

5–10 kg – 3.0–4.0 ml; 

10–20 kg – 4,0–6,0 ml; 

20–30 kg – 6,0–8,0 ml; 

30–40 kg – 8,0–10,0 ml; 

over 40 kg – 10,0–12,0 ml;

- Female cats with body weight up to:

3 kg – 1,0 ml; 

over 3 kg – 2,0–4,0 ml.

For treatment of nymphomania in female cats – 1,0–2,0 ml.

For single-dose prevention of oestrus, the product is administered once – to female dogs no later than one month before the expected oestrus, and to female cats – immediately after the last oestrus.

For long-term prevention of oestrus, the product is administered 5–10 days before the onset of oestrus; repeat administration is recommended every 5–6 months in female dogs and every 4–6 months in female cats. If female dogs that have received the product show signs of sexual excitement, an unscheduled injection should be administered.

For Siamese female cats, the dosage is determined individually by a veterinarian.

Before use, shake the vial thoroughly until a homogeneous suspension is obtained.

The product must not be used during pregnancy, false pregnancy and lactation, diseases of the urogenital and endocrine systems, irregular sexual cycle, mammary gland tumours, or in sexually immature animals (prior to the first oestrus).

Use of the product is not recommended if more than 3 days have elapsed since the onset of oestrus.

The product must not be used in animals during pregnancy and lactation.

Hypersensitivity to the product.

The product is intended for use in female dogss and female cats only.

Do not administer to animals prior to their first oestrus.

Do not administer during the post-operative period.

Use in sighthound breeds is not recommended.

In some cases, suppression of oestrus may be permanent.

In female dogs and female cats, fertility may be retained for up to 10 days following administration of the product.

After discontinuation of the product, mating is recommended following the second oestrus.

Glass vials of neutral glass grades NS-1, NS-2, USP-1, sealed with rubber stoppers under aluminium crimp caps, in volumes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 ml. Secondary packaging — cardboard box.

Store in a dry, dark place, out of reach of children, at a temperature of 5°C to 25°C.

3 years. 

After the first opening of the vial, use within 10 days, provided it is stored in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding 8°C.
