COMPOSITION
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
ATCvet QP51A, preparations against protozoan infections (QP52AX09, amprolium).
Active working substance of the preparation – amprolium hydrochloride, has a wide range of anticoccidioidal action, is effective against coccidia of chickens E. tenella, E. necatrix, E. acervulina, E. praecox, E. maxima, E. brunette, E. mitis; Turkeys - E. adenoeides, gappapavonis E., E. meleagrimitis; pheasants - E. phasiani, E. colchici, E. duodenalis; rabbits - E. stiedae, E. perforons, E. magna; Lambs - E. arloingii, E. Ahsata, E.faurei; calves - E. bovis and E. zurnii.
Anticoccidioidal action of amprolium is caused by its chemical structure similar to thiamine (vitamin B1), which required for life of eimeria. In the cells of parasites, amprolium violates carbohydrate metabolism, which leads to their death.
It is known that amprolium hydrochloride mainly inhibits the development of eimeria on the stage of shizogony of the first and second generation and is an antagonist of vitamin B1. Almost does not penetrate the cell membrane of the intestinal mucosa of birds and mammals, and is practically non-toxic in therapeutic doses. Most part of amprolium (up to 97%) is excreted from the organism unchanged. The preparation does not inhibit the formation of anticoccidioidal immunity, compliant with vitamins and feed additives used in poultry farming.
