ALBENVET 360 (tablets)
| Ingredients: | Albendazol |
| Application: | Oral |
| Type of formulation: | ANTIPARASITIC |
Description
Round tablets, white to light grey in colour.
Composition
1 tablet (1,8 g) contains active substance:
- albendazole – 0,36 g.
Excipients: potato starch, lactose, calcium stearate, talc.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QP52, antiparasitic veterinary medicinal products (QP52AC11, albendazole).
The active substance of the product, albendazole, belongs to the group of benzimidazoles.
The mechanism of action of albendazole consists in inhibition of protein (tubular) synthesis, resulting in impairment of uptake and intracellular transport of nutrients, disturbance of substrate metabolism (adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and glucose), as well as a decrease of mitochondrial reactions through inhibition of fumarate reductase, which leads to a reduction of glycogen stores and death of parasites from exhaustion.
Albendazole also has an ovocidal effect (destroys helminth eggs), decreases contamination of pastures and dog walking areas with helminths, and reduces the probability of reinfestation of animals.
Albendazole is administered to animals without fasting and without the use of laxatives.
The pharmacokinetics of albendazole in cattle, dogs and cats is poorly characterised. It is considered that, when administered orally, the product is absorbed better than other benzimidazoles. Approximately 47% of the dose administered orally is excreted in the urine as metabolites within 9 days.
