PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
ATCvet QP53А, Ectoparasiticides for topical use,
incl. insecticides
The product exerts a pronounced insectoacaricidal effect with respect to both larval and adult stages of development of fleas, fluff louses, chewing louses, ticks (Ixodidae and Sarcoptoidea), intestinal nematodes, and Dirofilaria larvae in dogs and cats.
PerFect® TRIO drops is a combination medicinal product
containing fipronil, ivermectin, and pyriproxifen.
Fipronil, (RS)-5-amino-1-[2,6-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-(trifluoromethylsulfinyl)-1H-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile, is a phenylpyryrazole derivative with an insecticidal and acaricidal effect.
Fipronil disturbs
the process of the passage of chloride ions in the GABA – dependent receptors
of ectoparasites; neural transmission, and nervous system activity, causing the
death of the arthropodas. It exerts no effect on the central nervous system in
the mammals. Following application to the skin, fipronil is accumulated in the epidermis, hair follicles, and
adipose glands of the animal and has a long-lasting insectoacaricidal contact effect.
Following application of the product, fipronil
is distributed across the body surface within 24 hours.
Ivermectin
belongs to the chemical group of macrocyclic lactones. The pharmacological
action of ivermectin consists in that it acts as an agonist of the GABA
(gamma-aminobutyric acid) neurotransmitter in nerve cells and
also binds to glutamate-gated
chloride channels in nerve and muscle cells of invertebrates. In
both cases it blocks the transmission of neuronal signals of the ectoparasites
and nematodes, which are either paralyzed and expelled out of the body, or they
starve.
Pyriproxifen is a juvenile hormone analog, which, by disturbing the chitin synthesis and
molting processes in larvae, hampers the growth of competent
pupae and causes the death of insects at the preimaginal stages of development
this resulting in the termination of population replenishment at the egg and larva stages, prevents the sexually mature insects from being
occurred on animals and at the places of keeping them.
Is applied to the skin at the recommended dose levels, the medicinal product exerts neither topically irritating effect nor resorptive toxic effect; on contact to eyes, causes irritation. The medicinal product is toxic to fish and bees.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
Prevention
of and treatment for ectoparasite and endoparasite invasion in dogs:
● Fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans);
● Fluff
louses (Linognathus setosus);
● Chewing
louses (Trichodectes canis, Felicola
subrostratus);
● Mosquitoes
of three genera: Aedes, Culex, and Anopheles;
● Ticks in
the family ixodidae, the hard ticks (Ixodes spp., Dermacentor spp., Haemaphysalis
spp., Rhipicephalus spp., Boophilus calcaratus) at the imaginal, nymphal,
and larval stages;
● Acariformes
(Otodectes cynotis, Notoedres cati,
Sarcoptes canis, and Cheyletiella spp.);
● Trombidiformes (Demodex canis, D. gatoi, D. felis);
● Digestive tract nematodes (Toxocara spp., Toxascaris spp., Trichuris vulpis, Uncinaria
stenocephala, and Ancylostoma spp.);
● Larvae
(stages L3 and L4 microfilaria) of Dirofilaria
immitis and Dirofilaria repens.
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
Prescribe
the medicinal product once to adult dogs and puppies of 3 months and more of
age and of more than
Apply the
medicinal product to a dry intact skin of animals between the scapulaeлопатками and along the backbone, or,
in the event of infestation with Otodectes
cynotis, to the pinna skin. In order to apply the medicinal product, cut
the pipette tip off and split the hairs apart so that the skin is visible, press
the pipette tip to the skin, and squeeze the pipette several times to apply the entire contents to
the skin.

On the
infestation with the ixodidae, apply
the medicinal product at a dose level of 1 drop directly to the tick and the
site of its attachment to the skin. If the tick does not fall off within 20
minutes, take it out carefully with a forceps.
For the
therapeutic purpose in sarcoptic mange, demodecosis, and notoedric mange, apply
the medicinal product 2 to 4 times at an interval of between 7 and 10 days; for
the preventive purpose, apply the medicinal product once a month. Treatment is
recommended to carry out combined with etiotropic therapy, nosotropic therapy,
and symptomatic therapy.
When
treating large dogs, apply the medicinal product to the skin in 3 to 4 sites.
In order to
treat otoacariasis (ear mange), use PerFect® TRIO drops once. In the course of
treatment, the acoustic meatus is recommended to be cleaned of exudate and
crusts, and in the event of complication with otitis, antimicrobial and
anti-inflammatory agents are recommended to be prescribed. Repeat the treatment
course, if required.
The
protective action of the medicinal product after a single treatment of an
animal lasts for up to 21 days against ticks and for up to 1.5 months against
insects.
Repeated treatments
of animals with the medicinal product during the season of activity of
parasites are recommended to be carried out symptomatically, but in no event
more often than once a month. For the purpose of preventing a repeated invasion
of fleas, replace the litters or treat them with an insecticidal agent in
accordance with its instructions for use.
