PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

SL - 44 is a combination drugwhich contains two antibiotics.

Lincomycin belongs to thelincosamide group, has a broad spectrum of action, and is active againstgram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms such as: Staphylococcus spp.,Streptococcus spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium spp., Actinobacillusspp., Bordetella spp., some species of Nocardis and Actіnomyces spp. Lincomycinis especially active against Serpulina hyodysenteriae and Mycoplasma spp.Lincomycin exerts its antibacterial action by inhibiting RNA-dependent proteinsynthesis by acting on the 50S subunit of the ribosome. If administered orally, the bioavailability of lincomycin is 50%.

Spectinomycin is anaminocyclitol antibiotic. It is active mainly against gram-negative microflora, including E. coli, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella spp., Clostridium spp.,Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Haemophylus spp., Vibrio spp., as well asМycoplasma spp. Spectinomycin exerts its antibacterial action by binding to the30S bacterial ribosomes and inhibiting the translation of protein synthesis.

The peak plasma concentrationof these antibiotics is achieved 3 to 6 hours after administration. Lincomycinand spectinomycin are excreted unchanged mainly in the urine and faeces.

Lincomycin and spectinomycinhas a synergy effect in vitro against anaerobes in the pathogenesis of swinedysentery.
