Description
Tablets from white to grayish color with a characteristic odor.Composition
One tablet (0,12 g) of the preparation contains active substance:medroxyprogesterone acetate - 5 mg.
Auxiliary substances: potato starch, lactose, talc, calcium stearate.
Pharmacological properties
AТСvet QG, veterinary preparations affecting on urogenital system and sex hormones (QG03A hormonal contraceptives for systemic use)Active substance of the preparation is medroxyprogesterone acetate - synthetic progestin, analog of progestins which is produced by yellow body. The action consists in the transformation of proliferative endometrium into secretory, enhances myometrium hypertrophy and suppresses uterus involution. Depending on dose suppresses secretion of pituitary gonadotrophin, possesses anti-insulin effect. In animals medroxyprogesterone acetate has a pronounced adrenocortical effect and inhibits secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol.
Medroxyprogesterone has antiestrogenic action and reduces level of testosterone in blood plasma of males.
Application
The PROVERAVET is applied to female and male of dogs and cats:· to female dogs and cats for delay and termination of estrus;
· male cats and dogs - for decreasing of sexual activity and correcting of undesirable behavior (marking territory with urine, intraspecific aggression, hyperexcitability).
The preparation also prevents from arising of false pregnancy and lactation signs arising.
Dosing
The PROVERAVET preparation is used orally, forcedly on root of tongue or with a small amount of fodder 1-2 hours prior to main feeding of animal at doses:Female cats:
- for estrus prevention – 1 tablet once a week, apply the preparation during the period when delaying of estrus is desired. After discontinuation of the preparation, heat begins in approximately 2 weeks. The preparation must not be applied longer than 18 months.
- for termination of estrus – 1 tablet once a day for 3-5 days prior to estrus signs, not later than on the third day of estrus beginning, and than 1 tablet once a week. Estrus termination should not be performed more than twice a year.
Male cats:
- when arising of sexual excitement signs, for tranquillisation and correction of undesirable behaviour (marking territory with urine, intraspecific aggression, hyperexcitability) - 1 tablet once a day for 8 days, and further 1 tablet once a week.
Female dogs:
- for estrus prevention – 1 tablet for 10 kg of body mass of animal once per day 7-15 days prior to estrus beginning, after discontinuation of the preparation heat begins in several days; the preparation must not be applied for more than 32 days continuously;
- for estrus termination - 1 tablet for 10 kg of body mass of animal once per day for 3 days, and further 2 tablets for 10 kg of body mass of animal once a day for 7 days till termination of estrus signs, not later than on third day after estrus beginning. After discontinuation of the preparation, estrus generally begins in 4-9 months. Application of the preparation more frequently than 2 courses per year is not recommended.
Male dogs:
- when arising of sexual excitement signs, for tranquillisation and correction of undesirable behaviour (marking territory with urine, intraspecific aggression, hyperexcitability) - 4 tablets for 10 kg of body mass of animal per day for 8 days, and further 2 tablets for 10 kg of animal's body mass per day for 8 days.
Contra-indications
The preparation is not applied to animals in period of pregnancy and lactation and at false pregnancy and lactation!The preparation is not applied at diseases of urogenital and endocrine systems, disorders of sexual cycle regularity, mammary tumors, in sexually mature animals (before the first estrus)!
The preparation is not applied if after occurrence of estrus has passed more than 2 days!
Warning
When continuous application changes of sexual cycles, mammary glands enlargement, irregular appetite and body weight gain are possible.Apply the preparation under control of a veterinary medicine doctor, especially for dogs of sighthound breed.
