Description
Transparent liquid from, colorless or of brownish color with a specific smell of components.
Composition
1 ml of medication contains active ingredients:
fenthion – 2.0 mg;
ɑ-cypermethrin – 2.0 mg.
Excipients: dimethylsulfoxide, benzyl alcohol, 1,2-propylene glycol, glycerin, isopropyl alcohol.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QP53, ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents
EFECTVET is a combined medication containing fenthion and ɑ-cypermethrin.
Fenthion is a thiophosphororganic insecticide; its mechanism of action involves blocking the acetylcholinesterase enzyme in the neural synapses of a parasite, resulting in its death. Fenthion poorly penetrates the blood-brain barrier of warm-blooded animals, but when applied externally, it is absorbed through skin and penetrates into blood. Blood-sucking parasites die due to ingestion of fenthion with the blood of animals.
ɑ-cypermethrin is a repellent, a contact synthetic pyrethroid with a broad spectrum of insecticidal action that blocks transmission of nerve impulses, causing motor dysfunction, paralysis and death of ectoparasites. It is quickly metabolized and removed from the body without accumulating in the tissues of animals.
After applying the pedication on the skin, the active substances are accumulated in the epidermis, hair follicles and fatty glands of the animal and have a long insect-acaricidal effect.
Directions for use
Prevention and treatment of dogs and cats in ectoparasitic infestations: fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans), lice (Linognathus setosus), biting lice (Trichodectes canis, Felicola subrostratus), as well as in sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes canis), notoedric mange (Notoedres cati), otodectic mange (Otodectes spp.), in Parasitiformes infestations (Ixodes spp., Hyalomma spp., Dermacentor spp., Haemaphysalis spp., Rhipicephalus spp., Boophilus calcaratus).
Dosage
The animals are treated outdoors or in well ventilated areas. To prevent licking of the medication, the jaws are fixed with a loop or a "protective collar" is worn around the neck. Before use, shake the bottle carefully and, holding the bottle vertically, press the spray cap directing the medication jet at a distance of 10-15 cm to the body of the animal against the hair for a few seconds, moisturizing hair and skin. Covering the eyes of the animal, treat the ears and chest; with the tips of your fingers apply the medication around the eyes and nose, then treat the neck, limbs, abdomen and tail. The medication is applied at 0.5-1.0 ml per 1 kg of body weight, that is, 4 to 9 pressings for a 100 ml sprayer or 2-5 pressings for 250 ml bottles.
When treating animals, avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes!
When treating long-haired animals, the hair is brushed in such a way as to apply the medication directly to the skin.
When animals are infested by Parasitiformes, the medication is applied directly to the mite and the place where it attaches to the skin (one pressing on the sprayer). If within 20-30 minutes the mite does not fall off by itself, then it is carefully pulled out with a tweezer.
In order to prevent re-infestation of animals with ectoparasites, periodically replace or treat the bedding with the medication at 4-6 ml (35-52 pressings on a 100 ml bottle sprayer or 17-26 pressings for 250 ml bottles) per 1 m2
of the treated surface. After treatment, the bedding can be again used for animals only in 3 days.
In notoedric and sarcoptic mange of animals, the medication is applied to body areas previously cleaned of scabs and skin crusts engaging marginal healthy skin areas up to 1 cm.
The medication treatment is performed by lightly moistening the infested areas at 1 ml (9 pressings on a 100 ml bottle sprayer or 5 pressings for 250 ml bottles) per 10 cm2 of the infested area, 2-5 times at an interval of 5-7 days, until the animal's clinical recovery.
Animals with extensive infested areas are treated twice, allowing 24 hours before treatment; the medication is applied to the infested areas first on one, then on the other half of the body.
In otodectic mange, the inner surface of the auricle and the external auditory passage are cleaned of earwax, exudate and scabs, then spray the medication into each ear at 1-2 pressings on a 100 ml bottle sprayer or 1 pressing for 250 ml bottles. The treatment is done 2-3 times with an interval of 3-5 days.
For an even distribution of the medication, the auricle is folded and massaged lightly, fixing the animal's head for 5-10 minutes, to prevent splashing of the medication. Both ears shall be treated with the medication!
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the medication components!
Do not use on sick, exhausted and weakened animals!
Do not use on puppies and kittens before they reach 2-month age!
Do not use on females during pregnancy and lactation!
Precautions
When applying the medication, observe the basic hygiene and safety requirements for veterinary medication.
Treatment of animals shall be done in rubber gloves. After the treatment, wash hands with warm water and soap. Within 48 hours after treatment of the animals, avoid their contact with children under 2 years of age.
Do not bathe animals 48 hours before and after their treatment with the medication!
