PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
ATCvet QJ01 - antibacterial veterinary medicines for systemic use (QJ01GB03, Gentamicin).
Gentamicin – an antibiotic that belongs to a group of aminoglycosides. It is active against the gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella spp., some species of Proteus spp. and Serratia spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella multocida, Starhylococcus aureus, Serpulina hyodysenteriae, Mycoplasma spp.
The mechanism of action of the preparation is to block protein synthesis in bacterial cells.
Approximately 30% of the antibiotic is bound to plasma proteins.

Resistance to it is rare and slow to develop.

INDICATIONS
Calves less than 3months old, pigs: the treatment of animals suffering from septicemia, arthritis, also from diseases of gastrointestinal tract (gastritis, enteritis, peritonitis), respiratory organs (tonsillitis, tracheitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchopneumonia) and genitourinary (nephritis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, urocistitis, metritis, mastitis), skin (dermatitis) caused by pathogens susceptible to gentamicin.
Poultry (chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese): treatment of poultry suffering from septicemia, colibatcilosis, pasteurellosis, salmonellosis caused by pathogens susceptible to gentamicin.
DOSAGE
Orally in doses:
- calves – the first day – 5 ml of the preparation per 100 kg of body weight (divided into two times), then – 4 ml of the preparation per 100 kg of body weight once a day.
- pigs – 5 ml of the preparation per 100 kg of body weight per day (divided into two times) or 5 ml of the preparation per 10 liters of drinking water. For the treatment of dysentery – 11-22 ml per 100 liters of drinking water.
- poultry (chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese) – 20 ml of the preparation per 100 liters of drinking water.
The course of treatment – 5-7 days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
PRECAUTIONS
Animals may only be slaughtered for meat after 7 days after the last treatment.
