- trimethoprim – 20.0 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Gentazimvet is a combined preparation of gentamicin sulphate, sulfadimidine and trimethoprim. As a result of synergy of active substances, the activity of the preparation is much higher than its individual components.

Gentamicin – an antibiotic that belongs to the group of aminoglicosides. It is active against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella spp., some species of Proteus spp. and Serratia spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella multocida, Starhylococcus aureus, Serpulina hyodysenteriae, Mycoplasma spp.

The mechanism of action of the preparation is to block protein synthesis in bacterial cells.

Sulfadimidine and trimethoprim are bacteriostatic against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Starhylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacterium spp., E.coli, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Pasteurella spp., Bordetella spp. etc.).

Their mechanism is consistent inhibition of enzymes involved in the synthesis of folic acid, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell tymidine. Sulfadimidine blocks the conversion of para-aminobenzoic acid to dihydrofolic and trimethoprim blocks the conversion digidrofolic acid in tetrahydrofolic acid by inhibiting dihydrofolate reductase.
