Perfect TRIO® antiparasitic collar for dogs (collar)
| Ingredients: | Fipronil, ivermectin, pyriproxifen |
| Application: | External use |
| Type of formulation: | Insectoacaricidal products |
Description
A polymer strip with a buckle, available in various colours, with a characteristic odour of its components. A white efflorescence (deposit) may form on the surface of the strip during storage.
Composition
1 g of collar contains the following active substances:
- fipronil — 40,0 mg;
- ivermectin — 12,0 mg;
- pyriproxyfen — 20,0 mg.
Excipients: dimethyl sulfoxide, isopropyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloride strip.
Pharmacological Properties
ATCvet QP53A, ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents.
The collar exhibits pronounced insecticidal and acaricidal activity against larval and adult developmental stages of fleas, lice, chewing lice, ixodid ticks and sarcoptid mites, intestinal nematodes, and Dirofilaria larvae in dogs.
PerFect TRIO® collar is a combination product containing fipronil, ivermectin, and pyriproxyfen.
Fipronil — 5-amino-1-[2,6-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-[(trifluoromethyl)sulfinyl]-1H-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile, a phenylpyrazole derivative with insecticidal and acaricidal activity.
Fipronil disrupts chloride ion channel gating at GABA-gated receptors of ectoparasites, impairs nerve impulse transmission, and interferes with nervous system function, causing death of arthropods. It does not affect the central nervous system of mammals. Fipronil accumulates in the epidermis, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands of the animal's skin, providing prolonged residual contact insecticidal and acaricidal activity.
Ivermectin belongs to the chemical group of macrocyclic lactones. The pharmacological action of ivermectin consists in blocking neural or neuromuscular transmission through its effect on γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), resulting in disruption of nerve impulse transmission in ectoparasites and nematodes, leading to their paralysis and death.
Pyriproxyfen is an analogue of natural juvenile hormones that disrupts chitin synthesis and larval moulting processes, preventing the development of viable pupae and causing death of insects at pre-imaginal developmental stages. This results in cessation of population replenishment at the egg and larval stages and prevents the emergence of sexually mature insects on animals and in their environment. In adult insects, the product does not cause death but induces sterilisation of imagoes, thereby effectively eliminating the insect population.
The active substances of the collar are gradually released from the strip surface onto the animal's coat, ensuring prolonged residual activity.
The collar is toxic to fish and bees.
Indications
For the treatment and prevention of ecto- and endoparasite infestations in dogs:
- fleas and their larvae (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans);
- lice (Linognathus setosus);
- chewing lice (Trichodectes canis, Felicola subrostratus);
- mosquitoes of three genera: Aedes, Culex, Anopheles;
- ixodid ticks (Ixodes spp., Dermacentor spp., Rhipicephalus spp., Haemaphysalis spp., Boophilus calcaratus) at the imaginal, nymphal, and larval developmental stages;
- ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) and notoedric mites (Notoedres cati);
- gastrointestinal nematodes (Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma spp., Toxocara spp., Toxascaris spp.);
- larvae (microfilariae, L3 and L4 stages) of Dirofilaria immitis and Dirofilaria repens.
Dosage and Administration
Remove the collar from the packaging and place it in a dry, well-ventilated location inaccessible to children and animals for 30 minutes; then place it around the animal's neck, adjusting it so that a gap of 1–2 cm remains between the neck and the collar, and secure it with the buckle.
The collar should fit loosely around the neck and must not restrict the animal's growth. When properly fitted and fastened, the collar should move freely around the neck.
Continuous use of the collar provides the animal with protection against ticks — for up to 3 months; against insects in dogs — for up to 4 months; against helminths — for up to 2 months.
The collar's action against ticks begins 48 hours after the start of application; therefore, it is recommended to put the collar on the animal 2–3 days before anticipated contact with parasites. If this is not possible, the animal should be thoroughly examined prior to fitting the collar and any ticks removed. In the case of severe infestation with insects, it is advisable to wash the animal with an insecticidal shampoo before application, and to replace or treat the bedding with an insecticidal product in accordance with its instructions for use.
Contraindications
Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients!
Do not use in puppies under 2 months of age.
Do not use in sick or convalescent animals!
Do not use the product for treatment of other animal species.
Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals.
The product is not recommended for use in Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties), Old English Sheepdogs (Bobtails), and their crossbreeds due to the potential neurotoxic effects of the active substances!
Precautions
If the animal shows increased individual sensitivity to the collar components or signs of skin irritation appear, discontinue use of the collar.
When handling the product, observe the basic hygiene and safety precautions applicable to veterinary medicinal products.
Remove the collar during bathing of animals. The collar's efficacy against parasites will be restored within 48 hours after re-application. During this period, additional protection in the form of PerFect insecto-acaricidal spray is recommended.
In the event of allergic reactions in an animal sensitive to the product components, antihistamine and symptomatic treatments should be administered.
Do not allow small children to play with or contact animals wearing the collar.
